Chapter 6

Spa day, fun day

Walking into the spa the driver took me to, I am in awe and loving my daughters right about now. When the receptionist is listing off all the things the girls set me up with I’m so excited I could dance. Not wanting to embarrass myself I refrain from doing so. Thankfully my masseuses’ name is Jennifer, so it’s safe to assume it’s a girl. Right?

Since my massage was last, I put it to the back of my mind, first up was my facial. I had a lovely older lady name Blanche who put me to sleep with her melodic music and wonderful hands. She quietly worked on me as I took a thirty-minute mini nap. She gently woke me up and sent me to my pedicure station.

There I met a twenty something year old named Ginny, she was sweet and very funny. We laughed and joked while she worked on my feet. I told her about my girls and she told me about her childhood. Her grandparents raised her because her mom had her very young. How young she never said, but I assume it was extremely young since she made the statement they grew up more like sisters than mother and daughter. What a sad thing for a girl so young to have a child and that child knowing her mother couldn’t truly be a mother.

After Ginny gave my legs the massage of their life, exfoliated them and gave me a kick ass pedicure I was ready for my manicure. I was beginning to get sad, this pampering day for me was going really fast, and I was enjoying myself immensely. I sucked it up and pulled my big girl panties up and moved on to the next station where I met Elvira. I shit you not, she could compete with the television show hostess! I guess she’s what you would consider Goth, or new age. Whatever it is the kids are calling it, I’m not sure how old she is with all of the junk she had all over her face and her black hair standing out. But hey, who am I to judge, you should see my hair from the 80’s. Not my best decade, but you live and you learn.

Elvira however wasn’t as intimidating once she started speaking. The poor girl was in college majoring in Education. Now this is no offense to her in any way, but the school board is not lenient with appearances. I know they’re gonna take away her rights to be who she feels she should be. I hope she’s prepared to be told how to dress and that her appearance must go. Otherwise I’m afraid the poor girl will never get a job in her field. It would be a shame too, she’s bright and very intelligent. I personally feel she’d have a lot to offer the next generation if they could put appearances aside. Did I tell her this? No, she’s gonna have to learn the way we all have to.
